It's not easy being green:
A cathode ray tube or CRT, is the primary video display element of television and computer
monitors.
A typical CRT contains 15 to 90 lbs of LEAD-LINED glass!
Lead and other unpleasant
substances are added to CRT glass to protect the users from radiation produced by high-voltage
electron beams needed with this type of technology to make images.
(This radiation is not a concern with low-voltage LCD or flat-screen
monitors)
Some CRT glass contains up to 25% lead oxide. THESE ITEMS SHOULD NOT BE DISPOSED OF IN
TRASH OR LANDFILLS. These CRT's have a powerful NEGATIVE effect on soil & ground water.
The ultimate answer is remanufacture and recycling.
It is unlikely that the manufacturers will donate much of
their profits, or research & development budgets to the ills of their old technology. So...here are a
few links to help consumers and savvy business people start a quest for solutions.
